SEISMIC PERFORMANCE OF RECTANGULAR BRIDGE COLUMNS WITH MODERATE CONFINEMENT. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE
A discussion of a paper with the aforementioned title by N.I. Wehbe, M.S. Saiidi, and D.H. Sanders, published in this journal (Volume 96, Number 2, March-April 1999), is presented. The discussers maintain that theoretical and measured values of initial stiffness of reinforced concrete members may not be in total agreement, even in a controlled laboratory environment, and suggest eliminating the effect of footing flexibility. Discussion is followed by closure from the authors.
