FEDS FILE PROPOSED STANDARD
On December 30, 1999, the Federal Highway Administration filed a notice of proposed rulemaking on Dedicated Short Range Communications standards for commercial vehicles (DSRC/CV). Despite many years of optimistic speculation by intelligent transportation systems enthusiasts, 99% of the usage of DSRC is electronic tolling. Efforts are being made to provide that at least heavy trucks, many of which roam all over the country, have some lanes at each toll plaza that will read the new DSRC/CV standard transponder.
