This publication is a collection of the 40 papers that were presented during the Council of Logistics Management 1999 Fall Meeting in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Topics in this edition of the council's annual conference proceedings are centered on the 1999 conference theme, "Enhancing Global Relationships: Passport to the Future," and cover a wide variety of research reports, statistics, debates, opinions, and dialogue of interest to those who work in the logistics profession. This year's edition again contains "The Ohio State University 1999 Survey of Career Patterns in Logistics," conducted by B.J. LaLonde and T.L. Pohlen, which provides current data about the "typical" chief logistics executive's age, education, salary, mobility, responsibility, staff size, budget, and positioning within the operation. Another annual feature is H.W. Davis and W.H. Drumm's yearly compilation of industry statistics entitled, "Logistics Cost and Service 1999." Chapters in the proceedings correspond to the track topics presented at the 1999 annual conference. The following track topics are represented: collaborative planning, forecasting, and replenishment; creating logistics value; current research and surveys; customer satisfaction: reaping the rewards; decision support systems; electronic commerce; emerging technologies in supply chain management; flow-through inventory strategies; fundamentals of finance; global logistics strategies; growth and development of logistics personnel; logistics issues in supply chain management; partnerships and strategic alliances; preparing for success--issues and strategies; principles of logistics; professional development; public sector logistics issues; strategic career management; third party logistics: selection and performance evaluation; warehousing; and world-class logistics: best practices for the 21st century.
