ORTHOTROPIC PLATES - VALUES INFLUENCING BENDING MOMENTS AND SHEARING FORCES OF DISCONTINUOUS SYSTEMS

ORTHOTRAPE PLATTEN - EINFLUSSWERTE FUR BIEGEMOMENTE UND QUERKRAFTE DISKONTINUIERLICHER SYSTEME

Orthotropic plates used in steel construction have a discontinuous structure. Bridge cross girders, which are the main supports for the orthotropic plates, are always arranged at wide intervals. The longitudinal girders, which are the transverse supports of the orthotropic plates, are generally arranged at very much shorter intervals. In solutions according to the orthotropic plate theory the discontinuity of the bridge cross girders has been neglected. The aim of the present book is to give precise consideration to the discontinuity of bridge cross girders. Because of the short distances between the longitudinal girders, the discontinuity of these supports is not taken into consideration. In solutions based on the orthotropic plate theory a point of infinity always occurs in the bending moments and shearing forces at the point of load application. When the discontinuity of the structure of the orthotropic plates is taken into consideration, the points of infinity disappear and finite values are obtained for bending moments and shearing forces at the point of load application. Previous solutions based on the orthotropic plate theory provided only influence surfaces for the bending moments in the middle of the span and shearing forces at the supported edges of the plates. In contrast to this, the present investigation provides bending moments and shearing forces also for the point 0.2. /Author/
