NTCIP LESSONS OR MAKING NTCIP WORK
In one of the first large-scale NTCIP deployments, an NTCIP-based Traffic Control System (TCS) was specified for the City of Phoenix. TransCore was awarded the contract to implement it. The system was required to perform once-per-second communications to each controller for real-time monitoring, and provide full database management and upload/download capabilities to the traffic controllers. The communications media consisted of several half-duplex 1200-baud leased lines and two full-duplex 9600-baud fiber optic channels. The 1200- baud lines accommodate four drops per channel, while the 9600-baud lines handle up to 16 drops per channel
