IMPROVING FREEWAY TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS INTEGRATION USING US ITS NTCIP CENTER-TO-CENTER CONCEPT IN TAIWAN
Operating agencies in Taiwan are currently implementing comprehensive computerized freeway traffic management systems to improve freeway expressway, and tunnel operations. Developing advanced and integrated system development approaches are very essential to the future freeway, expressway, and arterial network usage. This paper describes how the system integration efforts, currently undergoing, take advantage of the worldwide ITS development efforts, and the NTCIP communication standards already available. The study has developed a set of advanced system architecture standards and system interface designs to support long-term system expansion needs. This ITS development experience may be shared by transportation professionals in other parts of the world
