A BULLETIN OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT STATISTICS: GREAT BRITAIN 1999

This bulletin updates the DETR publication Focus on Public Transport GB 1999, and various other earlier tables. It uses tables and charts to illustrate the main trends and make comparisons between various modes. Its first part covers trends in public transport 1950-1998/99: eleven trends for buses, four for rail, one for air travel, and five for non-local bus and coach services. The second section covers licensing for bus and coach operators, taxi and private hire operations, transport staff, and public transport vehicle stock; it includes tables of staff employed by British bus and coach operators and in transport industries, and numbers of buses and coaches registering for the first time, by seating capacity. The third section contains data about public transport users, including National Travel Survey data and data on area and modal variations, car access, journey purpose, bus service frequency, and difficulties using buses. The fourth section describes concessionary fare schemes for the elderly, children, and further education students, and rail concessions. The fifth section gives facts and figures of crime on public transport, including assaults and robberies of staff and bus passengers, crimes on the railway, and vandalism. The Annexes include a calendar of transport events from 1985 on, and 26 additional tables.
