This article describes the Transport Ordering Production Administration System (TOPAS) introduced by Intercontainer-Interfrigo (ICF). TOPAS was developed in response to the need to rationalise the administrative procedures and simplify the existing document flow of ICF. The aim is to improve administrative efficiency, thus reduce costs. TOPAS will also improve efficiency by giving ICF the first point of contact with customers, and responding to the market research finding that customers prefer end-to-end service from one company that they recognise. ICF has also made investigations to optimise its wagon management. The combination of TOPAS and Shipment Tracking will enable customers to monitor their freight transport from end to end. TOPAS will have a new interface to customers among its main features, which will cater especially for high-volume customers. As an order management tool, it will put ICF directly between its customers and suppliers, this eliminating the need for middlemen. It enables ICF to introduce new business processes, and enables Shipment Tracking to be used to its full potential. ICF's system is completed by its capacity database, which contains data about the capacity of its transport units.
