EVOLUTION VS. REVOLUTION IN MULTIMEDIA NETWORKING FOR AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATIONS
Today's car manufacturers are integrating ever more complex multi-media equipment into their vehicles in order to meet the changes in consumers buying behaviour. Examples of such equipment range from the car radio/cassette player, through audio CD Changer and mobile telephones through to sophisticated car navigation and video systems. In order to efficiently integrate all of these devices together and allow products from different manufacturers to inter-operate, a cost-effective evolutionary multimedia networking technology is required. This paper provides an overview of the requirements for automotive multi-media networks and specifically describes C&CE's evolutionary strategy presented in the ERTICO/CMBOA as well as C&CE's vision on future convergence of systems.
