COMPACT VEHICLE SENSOR USING A RETROREFLECTIVE OPTICAL SCANNER

This paper describes a vehicle detection and separation sensor that uses an optical scanner and a retroreflective optical system. This system is applied for use in toll collection systems. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the system in distinguishing between a tailgating vehicle and a vehicle with an attached trailer.
