DEVELOPMENT OF A DRIVING SIMULATOR. PART REPORT: MATHEMATICAL VEHICLE MODEL
UTRECKLING AV KOERSIMULATOR. DELRAPPORT: MATEMATISK FORDONSMODELL
This paper presents a mathematical model of a passenger car that is planned to be implemented in a hybrid computer. The model will be used in connection with a driving simulator with a real driver and hence run in real time. The mathematical description is complete in the sense that the dynamics of the engine, clutch and transmission are described in some detail. Equations for the steering linkage are given and include the important feedback of the torque from the tyres to the steering wheel. A simple curve-fitting formula for the aligning torque is also introduced. The sprung mass has six degrees of freedom to move but small angle approximations (for roll and pitch) have been used in the equations of motion. Provisions have been made for choice between rigid axles and individually suspended wheels, as well as between front and rear drive. /TRRL/
