EXPERIMENT OF ADVANCED PARKING LOTS UTILIZING DSRC AND ETC
Toyota City is located in the heart of Aichi Prefecture, and is an inland industrial city, which has rapidly prospered with automobile industry. This background influences an extremely high rate of automobile usage as one of transportation characteristics. Especially, automobile usage at commuting is approximately 80 percent. On the other hand, there happens various kinds of traffic problems like traffic congestion, a number of traffic accidents, declining public transportation, urban sprawl and so on. Based on the future social circumstances like the soon-coming aging society, developing IT society and the realization of traffic system kind to nature, Toyota City started 'ITS Model Area Experiment' in 1999. In the experiment, the parking lot guidance system begun in 1988 was advanced to provide road traffic information by various media as well as vacant/occupied parking information.
