A CHAMPIONSHIP EFFORT

Columbus Regional Airport Authority faced several challenges in early January 2003, including a planned merger and the federally mandated implementation of 100-percent checked baggage screening by January 1. Perhaps the biggest challenge, however, was the hosting of 45 charter flights through Port Columbus International Airport en route to Tempe, Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl, where the Ohio State football team would be playing on January 3. This article describes how the airport authority met these challenges. Managers from operations, customer service, ground transportation, safety, security and concessions worked together to ensure that the charter passengers arrived at their destination with minimal confusion and delay.
