A GUIDE TO THE HEAVY GOODS VEHICLE DRIVING TEST AND LICENCES

This booklet gives information and test questions of value to a learner heavy goods vehicle driver. It is based on a number of authoritative publications supplemented by the author's experience. It outlines the basic requirements of the hgv driver and learner driver. Information is given on the young driver training scheme which allows drivers under 21 to learn when under appropriate supervision and also of the training opportunities scheme. Features of the 2 hour hgv driving test are next given together with appropriate advice. A chapter deals with the coupling and uncoupling of articulated vehicles, including fifth wheel couplings and automatic couplings, it includes sample questions and answers. Two further chapters deal with loading and unloading, waiting and parking restrictions and the new traffic signs. The remainder of the booklet consists of a large number of questions on traffic signs, the highway code and vehicle safety, together with answers. Appendices respectively list training facilities by commercial organizations and group training associations, also traffic area offices and testing centres. /TRRL/
