AN INVENTORY OF SELECTED COMPUTER MODELS RELATING TO AUTOMOBILE PRODUCTION, PERFORMANCE, USAGE AND SALES

This internal memorandum presents an inventory of selected computer models relating to the automobile industry. Included are brief summaries of models dealing with different aspects of vehicle production, performance, and usage, including simulations of vehicle production and resource accouting, vehicle miles traveled, new car sales, automobile pricing, attributes of the automobile fleet, and energy consumption. For each model, input, output, methodology, and sources of further information about the model were specified. Two approaches were taken in choosing the models to be listed in the inventory: one comprehensive and the other selective. When all models of a given type performed similarly, a few illustrative models were indicated; when models designed to produce the same output utilized rather different approaches, as comprehensive a list of models as possible was included. Users of these models include various government agencies and researchers interested in automotive transportation.
