INTEGRATED RWIS IN THE CENTRAL EUROPEAN TERRITORY
The Central European territory is a geographical region with dense road traffic and very diverse landscape. The future European integration will require a working road weather information system that will be a major factor influencing the road transportation. This paper provides information about the approach to this problem by the road authorities and meteorologists in the Czech Republic and Germany. A pilot project was launched in the border region between the Czech Republic and Germany. The project was named Sumava, after the mountains in this area on the Czech side. The primary tasks for the project are: Creation of road weather stations network for the region; organizing a working data acquisition system for different systems; mutual information exchange for issuing a regional road weather forecast; and multi-user and multi-media information platform.
