The main propulsion unit for the methane tanker Hassi R'Mel has symetrically built turbine casings, throttle control and heat elastical control. The builders, Blohm and Voss, have tested the unit over its six months of operation and noted high reliability and maneuverability coupled with a low fuel consumption. The article lists many construction innovations which make these qualities possible. The very favorable results of the trial run are cited including the expected low temperature and the remarkable start-up and reversing times for the unit. The six month experience with the turbine has shown that it is more efficient than nozzle turbines when under heavy load and start up times are all exceptional and unmatched by conventional steam turbines.
