AN ELECTROCHEMICAL STUDY OF HETEROPOLY MOLYBDATES AS COOLING WATER CORROSION INHIBITORS
The utility of heteropoly molybdate compounds as cooling water corrosion inhibitors for mild steel was investigated by various electrochemical techniques. It was shown that high concentrations of heteropoly molybdates are required to passivate mild steel electrodes. The breakdown of passivity was studied as a function of inhibitor volume and concentration of aggressive anions. Various approaches for the economic utilization of heteropoly molybdates are described, including high level pretreatment-low level maintenance level regimes and formulation with polyphosphates and zinc.
