METROPOLITAN COMMUNICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

This paper explores the communications requirements of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) from the perspective of a moderately large metropolitan area such as Baltimore or Boston. Analysis is based on the architectures advanced during the first phase of the ITS National Architecture Development Program. ITS information flows are examined from the perspective of vehicles, individuals, and fixed facilities, including their supporting sensors.
