AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE MOTION OF A TOWLINE ATTACHED TO A VEHICLE MOVING IN A CIRCULAR PATH

Behavior of a cable-body system that is steadily towed in a circular path, is studied experimentally. While a full-scale towing could not be exactly modeled, the large dimensions of the test facility made it possible to provide relevant information in an area where only limited data currently exist. The present experimental results furnish the precise data required for assessment of analytical models. Two analytical models have been developed, and one of these is compared with the present experiment. The difference between analytical models and experiment is explained, and the measures to be taken for improvement of analytical models are presented.
