NOISE MEASUREMENTS DURING TUNNELLING TRIALS AT CHINNOR
While a 5 M diameter tunnel was excavated in chalk two series of measurements of noise levels were made, one with the machine outside the tunnel, the other when the machine had driven 175 metres and noise levels of up to 105 db(a) were recorded when the machine was cutting. Ways in which airborne noise levels on the tunnelling machine could be reduced are discussed.(a) /TRRL/
