IVHS AND THE FUTURE OF STATE DEPARTMENTS OF TRANSPORTATION
In this paper, the author discusses how Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS) offers the opportunity to change the structure of state departments of transportation. IVHS activities, both operational and planned, in the state of Illinois are described. The author contends that states are in an ideal position to support operational tests and cooperative ventures and to assist in developing uniform standards.
