MINOR RURAL ROADS

This is a report by the working party set up by the association of county councils to consider the problems of minor rural roads i.e. Class III and unclassified roads in England and Wales. Details are given of the nature of traffic and size of axle loads on the minor road system and suggestions are made as to the measures which could be taken to deal with excess traffic on these roads. Minor roads in four rural areas are considered and estimates are given for the required improvement on distribution, access, and other roads in the light of government financial policy. A review of the situation, with possible measures for traffic control and road maintenance and recommendations for further action are stated in the conclusion. /TRRL/
