CORPORATE INVOLVEMENT IN THE SHORT HAUL BUSINESS TRAVEL MARKET IN THE EUROPEAN UNION
The importance of corporate involvement in the decision making process for business related air travel is being increasingly recognized. This research addresses the relationship between the traveler and his/her employing organization in the purchase of air travel. The opinions of 450 business travelers concerning his/her corporate travel policy (where present) are evaluated using a Likert rating of 15 attitude statements. The benefits sought, by the traveler, from the air service are also investigated and these benefits are used to segment the short haul business air travel market in the European Union. Three distinct business traveler market segments are identified. Changes in the market for short haul business travel since the full liberalization of the aviation market in the European Union are evaluated by comparing the data to an earlier study of similar travelers in 1992.
