THE ANALYSIS AND MODELLING OF MULTI-TRIP AND MULTI-PURPOSE JOURNEYS
The study of journeys with more complex structures is A relatively neglected area of research within the field of transportation planning and, as a result, there exist substantial problems of definition, analysis and modelling. This paper has three main objectives. Firstly, to discuss problems of definition and the inadequacy with which existing models handle multi-trip and multi-purpose journeys; secondly, to briefly review our understanding of the incidence and nature of such journeys, and finally to outline possible approaches to the modelling of multi-trip and multi-purpose journeys.
