COMPUTER PROGRAMS FOR SIMULATING A DOUBLE LANE CHANGE MANOEUVRE WITH HEAVY ARTICULATED VEHICLES
DATORPROGRAM FOER DIGITAL SIMULERING AV DUBBELT DOERFAELTSBYTE MED EN TUNG FORDONSKOMBINATION
This report is a description of programs for simulating a double lane change manoeuvre with articulated vehicles. The programs are purely digital and written in FORTRAN IV. Positions of centres of gravity and moments of inertia are calculated approximately by considering every vehicle unit as consisting of well-defined elements such as wheels, axles, engine, frame etc. The contributions from each of these parts are calculated and added together in a special program. The mathematical model is based on earlier work at vti but is more refined and has been expanded. The simulation programs provide for combinations with up to three articulations and various axle arrangements. Double or single axles with either parallel - or axle-steering are treated in some detail. Masses and inertia moment of the axles are not neglected. Since four coupled units are included some limitations are imposed on the mathematical model. Fixed roll axles are assumed and neither pitch motion nor longitudinal load transfer are considered. Hence the model is not suited for braking tests in its current shape. Tyre forces are calculated from experimentally determined correspondence between vertical force, sideslip angle and lateral force for a number of tyres. /TRRL/
