STRESS ANALYSIS OF DETAIL STRUCTURES OF A THIRD GENERATION CONTAINERSHIP

A finite element analysis of the stress distribution in three heavily loaded hatchcorners of a third generation containership is presented. The hatchcorners, located near the engine room and at intersections of transverse boxgirders with the main longitudinal bulkhead, were investigated. The stresses were calculated for two loading conditions, corresponding to still water bending and torsional loading of the ship. The boundary conditions for the structural details were derived from an overall finite element analysis of the containership. (Author)
