APPLICATION OF VISCOSIMETRY WITH SLIDING PLATE VISCOSIMETER IN EVALUATING THE LOW TEMPERATURE PERFORMANCE OF ASPHALTS

A self-making three-plate sliding plate viscosimeter for measuring low-temperature viscosity of bitumens is introduced in this paper. The low-temperature viscosities of seven kinds of bitumens are measured by using the viscosimetry. The result is analyzed. After that, the low-temperature performance evaluation indices of seven kinds of bituminous mixtures are analyzed. It is pointed out that the self-making viscosimeter can overcome the defect of other viscosimeters when measuring low temperature viscosity (especially below zero centigrade degree). According to this paper, bituminous viscosity is well linear with the tensile viscosity of bituminous mixtures; accordingly the low temperature performance of bituminous mixtures can be forecast by using bituminous low temperature properties.
