HEALTH ORIENTED TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM PLAN: SUMMARY REPORT

This study is designed to identify the need for a health oriented transportation service in a three-county area of Oklahoma, to develop a plan for providing such services when and where needed, and to recommend action needed to implement the plan. Efforts to implement a demonstration project are also summarized. Most of the region lacks bus service, and access to health facilities by public transportation is inadequate. In addition, outpatient services need to be decentralized and clinic schedules coordinated among themselves or with existing bus services. The plan seeks to improve accessibility to health services by coordinating and extending existing bus services and by developing an areawide emergency transportation system. Specific objectives toward achieving these goals are listed. Two maps show proposed bus service routes between the regions and current health facilities. Health providers would be encouraged to locate or relocate outpatient facilities with reference to the bus system. Data concerning outpatient facilities, current bus services, and the outpatient population are presented to document the need for improvement. Forecasts of daily bus service demand are provided in five-year intervals through 1985. Portions of this document are not fully legible.
