THE STANDARD OF FOOTPATHS AND BUS STOPS - METHOD FOR ASSESSMENT AND DESCRIPTION

GAANGVAEGARS OCH HAALLPLATSERS STANDARD EN METOD FOER BEDOEMNING OCH BESKRIVNING

Most models for the description of travelling standard contain only the time factor, or are based on this in describing other standard factors. This report constitutes an attempt to employ all factors, whether or not quantifiable, in describing the standard of footpaths and bus stops. These factors or aspects are discussed and their significance analysed. Different levels of description, which are of interest in local planning, are used. The aspects to be included in these levels are indicated. The outline study for stops contains the aspects: weather, lighting, space, traffic safety, etc; the outline footpath description: distance, difference in level, and traffic safety. The detailed stop study contains the aspects: traffic safety, noise, spatial character plus the previous aspects. The detailed footpath study contains distance, weather, lighting, level difference, noise, traffic safety, variation, scale, etc. Accessibility for the handicapped examines the aspects: information, level difference, noise, traffic safety, variation, scale etc. Accessibility for the handicapped examines the aspects: information, level difference, width surfacing, rest places. The proposed method is applied to describe the standard of footpaths and bus stops in a Swedish town. /TRRL/
