RECREATIONAL TRAFFIC AND RECREATIONAL HIGHWAYS
RECREATIEVERKEER EN RECREATIEWEGEN
This report discusses recreational traffic and the making of provision for it. Emphasis is laid on recreational traffic in urban areas. A difference is drawn between (1) recreational traffic directed towards a special object and (2) recreational traffic with the sole aim of having an enjoyable drive. In the former case the design of roads must be aimed primarily towards an easy traffic flow. The construction of picnic places for instance along these roads is not relevant. In the latter case the recreational function of the road is the most important requirement. The accessibility of recreational areas, traffic forecasts, highway capacity and design criteria, and layout and construction are also discussed. /TRRL/
