The first section of this book contains the conclusions of the OECD sector group on the urban environment concerning the impact of airport development on urban growth and the environment. The chapters are entitled as follows:- (1) Aviation up to 1990; (2) Aircraft noise and man; (3) How to reduce aircraft noise; (4) The management of airport planning; (5) A programme of studies for locating an airport; (6) A theoretical discussion of the effects of an airport on its region; (7) Finding sites for major airports e.g. Oslo, Copenhaben and Osaka; (8) A project under construction: Paris; (9) A project subsequently abandoned: Maplin (London); (10) The expansion of existing airports: Frankfurt and Zurick; (11) An expansion halted: Kennedy, New York; (12) Airport and new town in Sweden; (13) Abating noise: a Swiss approach; (14) Airports and ecology in Canada. Appendices cover the social and economic impact of aircraft noise and also the economic and urbanisation /TRRL/
