THE TYPES AND SCOPE OF COATED MACADAM

This booklet defines coated macadam and other associated bituminous mixture terms, and classifies coated macadam according to structural use, describing the functions of the basic ingredients (aggregates, binders, fillers) of the mixture. The types of coated macadam (open-textured, medium-textured, fine-textured and dense) are described and illustrated, and some operation specifications are given concerning preparatory work, and the laying and compaction of coated macadam. An apendix contains extracts from specifications relating to dense tar surfacings. /TRRL/
