ANALYSIS OF COASTAL NAVIGATION TECHNIQUES
The application of advanced display techniques and computer technology to coastal navigation can provide the navigator with improved accuracy and simplified operational procedures to reduce the navigator's work load in confined waters and the incidence of navigational errors. This paper will describe the various approaches for improving visual and radar piloting that have been developed or are under consideration for various Navy, Coast Guard, and maritime applications including those for high speed ships. Analysis of the expected performance is also discussed.
