ENVIRONMENTAL NOISE ASSESSMENT BY TRAFFIC NETWORK SIMULATION MODEL
To abate traffic noise; vehicle noise reduction, road designing and traffic management are considered to be the main methods. Especially it is very important to assess the effects on the noise reduction of various abating methods at the designing stage. For this purpose, many prediction models were proposed. But these models will predict the noise level at the specified point only. To assess the traffic noise in the extended area, computer simulation model of traffic network was developed. This model consists of two kinds of models; namely, macro model and micro model. The macro model was developed by applying electric circuit theory and constructed by combining micro model of road segments (straight road unit or crossing road unit). The main function of this model is to predict the values of traffic volume, road speed, vehicle intervals and mixture ratio of vehicle categories at each road segment. These values were used as the input data of each micro model to calculate the traffic noise on each road segment. By using this network model, it is possible to calculate the traffic noise at many points of traffic network as the time varying function. Practical case studies were investigated and results will be reported. /Author/TRRL/
