EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF SEA ICE AND THE ICE FORCES ON AN CIRCULAR PILE

Investigations are made on the testing method of strength and mechanical properties of sea ice as well as on the ice forces on an isolated circular pile. Tests show that the compressive strength of sea ice has a linear relation with the ice temperature as well as with the density of sea ice. Experiments on the ice forces on an isolated circular pile indicate that the ice forces are proportional to the thickness of sea ice and the square root of pile diameter. A proposal is made of an experimental formula on the ice forces on pile.
