SYSTEMS APPROACH TO THE EVALUATION OF LANDSIDE CONTAINER HANDLING OPERATIONS
The traditional methods of evaluating container terminal operations--computer simulation allied to extensive mathematical calculations or reliance on existing operator experience--both have individual drawbacks. Combination of the best features of the two methods, however, can be of practical value. This article by the assistant director, technical services, of the UK National Ports Council, based on the work undertaken for the Council by Livesey and Henderson Consulting Engineers, describes the analytical method evolved by the NPC.
