COULD FIBRE CONCRETE BE USED AS A HEATED WEARING COURSE AGAINST BLACK ICE?

LE BETON DE FIBRES POURRAIT-IL ETRE UTILISE COMME SURFACE DE ROULEMENT CHAUFFANTE ANTIVERGLAS

Details are given of tests carried out on concrete reinforced with metal fibres which increase mechanical strength and make it possible to send an electric current through the core of the structure with a view to raising the temperature of the latter. Tests were conducted on samples, on experimental slabs in the laboratory and on the circular test track in Pont a Mousson. The resistivity of the material can be easily controlled by the proportion of fibres incorporated. The whole system is self-regulated as a function of the moisture content of the support, and the consumption of current is low. /TRRL/
