EXPRESSING CHLORIDE CONTENT
Much confusion has occurred in the past because of the way in which chloride content of concrete has been expressed. The system outlined in this article is intended to clarify this confusion. In chloride attack on the reinforcement in concrete the reactive constituents are the chloride ions and the cement. It is therefore reasonable to express the chloride content of concrete in terms of the active parts i.e. The chloride ions as a percentage of the weight of cement. Conversions between this definition and other methods are outlined. Confusion can be minimised in the beginning by stating how the chloride content is expressed, thus allowing any conversions needed for comparison of the values, to be carried out. /TRRL/
