TESTS CARRIED OUT ON DRIVING SIMULATORS. A METHOD OF ASSESSING THE DRIVING APTITUDE OF DRIVERS

DIE FAHRPROBE AM FAHRSIMULATOR - EIN VERFAHREN ZUR BEURTEILUNG DER VERKEHRSEIGNUNG VON KRAFTFAHRERN

A random check was made of 57 learner drivers who had performed driving tests on a driving simulator. It was empirically proven that the level of the psychological predisposition of drivers to behave in an indictable manner in traffic may be forecasted and determined on the basis of driving data assimilated in a standardised driving test relevant to relative significance. This proves that the simulated driving test is also suitable for making direct prognoses of this psychological predisposition. Together with the two driving variables known as "speed uniformity" and "kerb hitting" or "contact collision", the variable called "the intermittent error" proved to be the most significant factor in forecasting for approximately two thirds of all simulated tests. The possibility of further developing the simulated test into a diagnostic aid is regarded as viable. /TRRL/
