THE COMPUTER AGAINST MOTORWAY CONGESTION. TEST OPERATION WITH COMPUTER OPERATED CHANGEABLE TRAFFIC SIGNS

COMPUTER GEGEN AUTOBAHNSTAUUNGEN. VERSUCHSBETRIEB MIT RECHNERGESTEURERTEN WECHSELWEGWEISERN

Within the framework of a Federal ministerial masterplan, a test area has been set up in the motorway network Rhein/Main in the Frankfurt region. This involves the use of a Siemen's traffic computer which evaluates current traffic data and distributes uneven traffic flow from overloaded sections by means of a changeable traffic sign at the motorway intersections. From the information derived from these changeable signs the driver can divert away from overloaded stretches to neighbouring motorway routes and so help to avoid traffic congestion, loss of time and accidents. /TRRL/
