THE 'RAINBOW' METHOD FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF THE REFRACTIVE INDEX OF GLASS BEADS
A new method is discussed for measuring the refractive index of glass beads used to increase the retro-reflectivity of highway signs and traffic markings. The method, based on the same principle as the formation of the meteorological rainbow, is generally more accurate than conventional liquid immersion methods such as the Becke line method and is much faster to carry out. /Author/TRRL/
