HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION USE OF INCINERATOR RESIDUE

This paper summarizes the findings of a study of the technology for using incinerator residue in highway construction, sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration. The composition of incinerator residues and their essential physical and engineering properties are discussed. A suggested means of classifying incinerator residue is developed, based on certain of these properties. Laboratory data related to various highway uses of incinerator residue is presented, together with suggested procedures for evaluation and practical use of the material in construction. Areas of needed research are also identified.
