With the current price of a new 20 ft X 8 ft X 8 ft 6 in. dry freight steel box, maximization of container life is uppermost in the minds of container owners. Though outwardly containers would appear to have changed little over the years, evolving design and material selection criteria coupled with advanced surface preparation and finishing techniques have resulted in containers which are lighter, inherently stronger and more corrosion resistant than their forerunners. The article discusses various aspects of these developments.
