ACOUSTIC NAVIGATION SYSTEM FOR OFFSHORE POSITIONING APPLICATIONS
A block diagram of the O. R. E. TRANSNAV 6000 Acoustic Navigation System's shipboard equipment consists of an interrogation transceiver and associated acoustic transducer; a computer for processing the ranges to transponders; the necessary computer data I/O devices, and an X-Y plotter and printer for display of position. Two modes of operation are possible: either "Ship" or "Ship/Sub" mode. When only surface vessel position is being plotted the "Ship" mode is used. When both surface vessel and sub position must be plotted, the "Ship/Sub" mode is used. Basic navigation programs are available for Ship and Ship/Sub positioning. Special software and hardware can also be provided for pipeline laying (PIPELINE NAV) and for plotting the position of towed vehicles (FISHNAV).
