THE CONTROL OF PROPULSION POWER ABOARD STEAM PROPELLED SHIPS
The control of propulsion power on steam propelled ships is discussed with regard to current requirements of remote operation and automation. The relevant control characteristics of the modern steam plant, such as the tolerant system dynamics and the self-regulating features of the sub-systems, are reviewed and requirements for the plant controls are established. Control equipment in current use is described with particular emphasis on a new propulsion turbine throttle control and monitoring system.
