DISSEMINATION OF NAVIGATIONAL INFORMATION--THE DISPLAY OF NAVIGATION DATA

The dissemination of navigational information is capable of several different interpretations and this paper will be concerned mainly with the display of information to the navigator of a modern merchant ship. It is not concerned with the need for more navigational information in certain parts of the world, or the need for new sensors for critical areas of operation. Most research papers on modern navigational systems launch into technical details without mention of the fundamental partner to the equipment--the man. The aim of this paper is to encourage an evolution in the presentation of all relevant navigational information, so as to enhance to efficiency of the navigator.
