THE USE OF SYNTHETIC MATERIALS IN HULL AND MACHINERY INSTALLATIONS

Resins and their reinforcement are discussed, and their application to hull construction is described. The mine hunter "HMS Wilton", a 450 ton displacement non-magnetic vessel, the largest GRP hull so far constructed, is briefly described. Applications of plastics to ship machinery are dealt with, and these include pipes, propellers and stern tube bearings.
