A REVIEW OF DIAPHRAGM WALLS

The seminar was held in order to discuss specific topics in greater detail than had been possible at the conference on diaghragm walls and anchorages held in London in September 1974. The following papers were presented: General analysis of available methods for designing diaphragm walls and anchored walls, by Fleming, WKG; Current design practice applied in differing ground conditions from diaphragm walls, contiguous piles and anchorages, by Corbett, BO; Practice in the detail design applications of diaphragm walls and contiguous piling, by Fuchsberger, M; Practice in the detail design applications of anchorages, by Ostermayer, H; Design and control of bentonite/clay suspensions and concrete in diaphragm wall construction, by Hodgson, FT; Ground anchors: installation techniques and testing procedures, by Littlejohn, GS; Slurry trench practice for diaphragm walls and cut-offs, by Little, AL. The opening address was by Leonard, MW, the summing up was by Hanna, TH and an appendix by Stroud, MA and Sweeney, DJ concerns a diaphragm wall test panel in Hong Kong. Discussions of the papers are included. /TRRL/
