The author starts by recalling the main design principles and general characteristics of the coaches and then describes the overall layout of the chopper equipment giving details of the main parts: chopper and its controls, motors and fittings. He shows how the solutions adopted are original and stresses how well the equipment is suited to the constraints of operating on a metropolitan railway.
